A Grimsby hardwood beam supplier has installed a TigerStop programmable stop and positioning system to improve accuracy in its cross-cutting operations.

Stuart H Somerscales Ltd said the TigerStop, supplied by Leeds-based Allied Machinery Ltd, had improved accuracy levels since being installed on an existing push feed cross-cut machine.

Dan Somerscale, son of company founder Stuart Somerscales, said: “It’s imperative that we achieve an accurate cut, particularly when producing heavy-duty decking for bridgework or construction beams for timber framed houses.”

He said some timbers previously had to be cut over-size and then re-cut on a radial cross-cut.

TigerStop features a memory for 99 hot key positions and 99 stop and feed cutting lists.
