Jewson has completed the acquisition of Build Center from Wolseley UK.

The company, part of Saint-Gobain Building Distribution, said the Build Center business will be managed separately from Jewson until competition clearance is granted by the Office of Fair Trading. A deal was originally announced in July.

As well as 148 branches, Build Center has several specialist timber centres. It will provide significant benefits and synergies for Saint-Gobain Building Distribution, particularly in procurement and logistics.

The Build Center business is the fourth largest UK general builders merchant with turnover last year of £316m and employing 1,600 people.

Jewson managing director Peter Hindle said the Build Center business was a great strategic and geographical fit with Jewson.
