Leo Martin, chief operating officer and executive director of Grafton Group, has joined the board of merchants co-operative and clearing house Unimer.

The appointment follows the recent resiganation of John O’Carroll-Bailey, also from the Grafton Group, who stood down due to ill health after 10 years’ service with Unimer.

Mr Martin, formerly chief executive of the Heiton Group, was appointed to the Grafton board in 2005 following the company’s acquisition of Heiton. The following year he was appointed chief operating officer with responsibility for the merchanting segment.

He is a director of Buy4Now, a member of the Chartered Accountants Regulatory Board, and a trustee of the Dublin City University Educational Trust.
