Wood flooring and finishes expert, Osmo UK has added a new two-part hardwax oil to its Polyx Oil Range.
Osmo Polyx-Oil 2K Pure is designed for professional use and to offer more protection for wooden flooring, without compromising the aesthetic qualities of wood.
“Once the hardener has been combined with the hardwax oil, the finish is ready to use. Polyx-Oil 2K dries on tropical wood species and is particularly appropriate for finishing darker wood species such as smoked oak,” said Steve Grimwood, managing director at Osmo UK.
The treatment, available as clear and satin-matt, comprises natural vegetable oils and waxes with additional water repellent additives to allow greater protection of the wood. Drying time is four hours.
Osmo UK is aiming the product at high traffic areas, such as in hotels shops and restaurants, where regular waxes may not offer sufficient protection.
Teknos has been busy in 2011, launching the water-based Aqua Primer 2907 fully factory-finished product range for exterior joinery and cladding, initially developed for the Scandinavian market.
Combining preservative and primer properties in a single product, it is designed to reduce the number of coats to achieve full protection, simplify product selection, minimise stock and reduce process and drying times by up to 25%.
It has also introduced a translucent range specifically for lodges and cabins, while Teknodur Aqua 3393 gives conservatory and garden building manufacturers the ability to colour co-ordinate joinery with metal roofing and plastic rainwater goods.
The water-based polyurethane finish for metal, plastic and aluminium products allows a typical joinery manufacturer to keep this operation in-house with existing spray facilities and ensure timber and other materials are the same colour.
Remmers UK, one of the newer names in wood coatings, is making its presence felt since launching its German-made timber products range here in 2010.
National sales manager (wood coatings) Brian Priestley said Remmers has picked up some good joinery accounts already.
It has recently launched Induline DW-601 Aqua Stop, a highly opaque, intermediate and finishing coat, for wood windows and doors.
The coating is based on a new type of multi-phase polymer which Remmers says becomes resistant to water just one day after application, “forming a blockade against water that conventional coatings only achieve after six weeks”.
Meanwhile, Crown Paints said it is inspiring the woodcare market to be more adventurous with colour.
“For too long the woodcare market place has been focused almost entirely on safe and natural wood tones,” said Julie Olsson, Sadolin marketing manager, Crown Paints.
“Classic colours such as pine, teak and mahogany are always going to be the mainstay of any woodcare range but they rarely turn heads or attract comment and we think it’s time we livened things up a little.”
Crown will use its colour forum, the Crown Colour Influences panel, which brings together colour experts every year – from the worlds of fashion, architecture, interior and exterior decor and landscaping – to identify the colour palettes that are going to be big in the year ahead.
Elsewhere, Crown says downward pressure on budgets in the construction sector will lead to specification of long-term performance coatings, including its Sadolin Ultra, a translucent woodstain designed to offer seven years protection on all exterior joinery.
