US sawmiller Tolleson Lumber has secured Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) sourcing certification for its mills in Perry and Preston, Georgia.

The company, acquired last year by Russia-based Ilim Timber, has a sawn capacity of more than 400 million board ft per year.

The SFI scheme claims it differs from other forest certification programmes by addressing the fact the 90% of the world’s forests are not certified.

An SFI-certified sourcing label tells consumers the lumber is from legal and responsible sources, regardless of whether the forest is certified.

All sawmills in the Ilim Group are certified according to various international certification systems.

Ilim’s Taiga sawn timber brand, produced at the Ust-llimsk sawmill in Russia, has FSC certification, while the Ilim Nordic Timber and Ilim Timber Bavaria mills in Germany have PEFC certification.
