The latest phase of the US Lacey Act has come into force, bringing further wood products under the scope of the regulation’s prohibition on illegally sourced timber.

Guitars, hand tools and certain types of furniture are included in the latest phase of enforcement of the Lacey Act, which effectively criminalises the import of illegally felled wood.

Earlier phases sawn timber, joinery products and panels come under the enforcement measures of the Act.

Teak garden furniture imported from Asia is one product area to be affected by expansion of enforcement, with exporters now having to declare the scientific name of the wood species and the country of harvest.
