International roofing and timber exhibition DACH+HOLZ saw a big growth in visitor numbers to 55,800 people at this year’s event (2010: 42,000).

Exhibitor numbers were also higher at 601 (2010: 580) at this year’s new venue, Stuttgart Exhibition Centre, from January 31-February 3.

A straw poll of roofers and carpenters visiting the biennial show revealed an upbeat attitude about the current economic situation, with 66.4% saying they thought the market looked “good” to “very good” for the future.

Karl-Heinz Schneider, president of the Central Association of German Roofers, said manufacturers increasingly regarded the exhibition as a platform for launching new products and innovations.

Meanwhile, the Architecture Forum Holz attracted more than 600 architects to hear about the latest timber construction methods.

Sawmillers, wood-based panel producers and wood fibre insulation board mills were among the exhibitors.
