Leading joinery software provider Joinerysoft has some new features to add to its popular Joinery Management Software (JMS) in 2012.

There are more than 600 installations in the UK to date and Joinerysoft wants JMS to be a one-stop shop for joinery companies and aims to be the “Microsoft of the joinery sector”.

With this in mind, this year it plans to launch upgrades, which include further customer relationship management features to make JMS more of a complete business management solution.

Management features

Joinerysoft managing director Alan Turner said some customers now required more management features, such as accounting and diaries. By adding these the company can offer customers the opportunity of dealing with one software provider, rather than having to buy separate design/manufacturing and management packages.

Another upgrade to be offered is full 3D capability. This opens up opportunities for JMS to be used in conjunction with five-axis CNC machining centres.

“We’re trying to be dynamic and forward-thinking and work with the joinery industry,” said Mr Turner.

JMS already covers a full range of features including the estimating, design and production processes for companies making bespoke products, with modules available for windows, doors, screens, stairs and gates, as well as a bill of materials module for other items, such as architraves, flooring, skirting, furniture and cabinets.

“A lot of our customers are not computer literate, so we are trying to build a system which is easy to use,” added Mr Turner.

U-value calculator

The JMS U-value calculator has been a success, helping joinery firms to easily calculate U-values on window quotes and save money on expensive testing.

The calculator allows the joiner to design a bespoke window or door shape and size, put in glass and instantly the software will show the U-value.

Mr Turner said the disadvantage of physical testing regimes were the costs, delays and strict rules, with products probably needing further testing if design changes were made.

“With a house full of windows, the chances are they will all be different sizes. Our software makes it a lot better for the end user and allows the joiner to have information to see if they can comply with Building Regulations.”

Timber species, type of glass and the spacers used can be changed and the new U-value calculated accordingly.

Joinerysoft is increasing its dialogue with timber merchants and hardware suppliers to gain the latest accurate information on products that make up a window.

“We’re trying to help customers not to have to input lots of data into our program. It’s important in energy ratings that you get information from timber merchants about timber density,” said Mr Turner.
