Investigations are underway in Indonesia to find those responsible for forest fires that have blanketed parts of the country and its neighbours with smoke.

The Ministry of Forestry says it will take firm action against anyone accountable. Logging concessions could be revoked and demands for compensation made.

The Ministry has also pledged to eradicate illegal logging in Indonesia, speed up restructuring of the country’s timber sector, speed up the development of industrial timber estates and implement regional autonomy in the forestry sector.
