The gap between private and public sector new home registrations continues to widen, according to new NHBC statistics.
Public sector housing registrations showed a 54% dip in March to 2,460 units, compared to the same month in 2011.
March private sector registrations were also down, by 10%. But the first quarter shows a 6% growth to 20,310 units, compared to the same quarter in 2011.
Overall first quarter registrations were down 13%.
“Contributing to this decline was the registration of the London Olympics village properties in the first quarter of 2011 which significantly inflated the comparative figures,” said NHBC commercial director Richard Tamayo.
Regionally, continued growth was recorded in the north-west and north-east of England.
