The minister inspected FSC-certified Flamebreak door blanks supplied by Indonesia’s PT Kutai Timber Indonesia, at Latham’s Thurrock depot.
The delegation also visited the Olympic Park where they met Noah Bold, environment and sustainability assurance manager at the Olympic Delivery Authority and who oversaw purchasing and control of all timber products on site.
Lathams’ chairman Peter Latham said the company had been a major buyer of Indonesian plywood in the 1980s and 90s. Following Greenpeace concerns about illegal logging, the company worked closely with suppliers who were willing to have their log supply chains assessed under a programme set up by the Timber Trade Federation.
"Since then a number of these suppliers have achieved FSC certification, notably PT Kutai, our supplier of Flamebreak door blanks and PT Sumalindo," said Mr Latham.
"We supplied FSC certified Flamebreak door blanks to the Olympic Park, hence minister Zulkifli’s visit there."
