A stepped investment programme at SCA‘s Tunadal sawmill and planing mill will start with a £2.5m spend to streamline production and increase productivity.

The improvement is expected to increase whitewood production capacity to more than 300,000m³ a year.

The decision to invest in Tunadal was taken after SCA investigated several options, including closing the site and moving to a greenfield location closer to its pulp and paper mills.

  • The increased production at Tunadal sawmill has led SCA Timber to increase direct sales of sawn timber to the Netherlands and the rest of Benelux.
  • As a result it will close its wholesale operation, Nehim BV at Zeist, and establish a new sales office at the site.
