The two companies had signed an agreement at the end of June, with the sawmill finally being transferred at the start of September.

"Kajaani Sawmill is a strong addition to our production concept which is founded on quality raw material procured from Northern Finland," said Pölkky Oy managing director Jouko Virranniemi.

"After this transaction we are able to provide even better service for our customers, both in Finland and abroad."

"Today, the situation in end-product market is challenging. With efficient production, correct cost structure and high-quality operations, competitiveness can be maintained also in future."

Northeast Finland-based Pölkky, which has a €130m annual turnover, has existing sawmills and wood processing facilities in Kuusamo and Taivalkoski, plus a pressure treatment plant in Oulu.
