The business was formerly part of timber engineering and merchanting business CR Taylor (Timber) Ltd, which went into administration on July 6 resulting in the closure of the main Denholme site and the subsequent sale of its assets. Former CR Taylor chairman Charles Taylor bought back the Thornton Road branch and renamed it Taylor’s Timber Centre.

The company says it is diversifying from its previous role as a traditional timber, sheet and insulation materials merchant by extending existing and adding new product ranges, including hardwood floors, stair parts and doors.

The “drive-through” timber centre plans will further speed up turnaround times, as the site is primarily serving collection customers.

A new deep-cut saw has been purchased for cutting large-section timber and the timber yard, trade centre and sheet materials/cutting shed are being reorganised.

The company says it is attracting business from outside its core Bradford customer base, including Aire and Wharfe Valleys, and across to Leeds and Calderdale.

“We have made a positive start,” said Mr Taylor. “We are investing to further improve stock lines and services.”

Meanwhile, the Taylor family is still looking to sell the 13-acre former CR Taylor Denholme site, which has outline planning permission for the construction of 73 homes. The site was not owned by CR Taylor so did not form part of the liquidation of assets. It has been held in trust with the Taylor family since 2005.
